Lyth still driven by earning Test recall

Lyth played seven Tests for England in 2015, scoring a disappointing 265 runs at an average of 20.38 before being dropped.

The left-handed opener admits he didn’t show his best during his short stint at the top of the England batting order, and would love to get another crack at conquering Test cricket.

“I didn’t do myself justice with England at all,” admits Lyth.

“I absolutely still have ambitions to play for England I definitely still believe that I’m good enough to do just that as well.

“Obviously (Haseeb) Hameed and (Keaton) Jennings are at the front of the queue right now so I have to be patient, score hundreds and match-winning runs for Yorkshire and just see what happens.”

Lyth enjoyed a superb year with the bat for the Tykes in 2016, and admits he needs to keep his focus on scoring runs across three formats for his County and the rest will take care of itself.

“My focus at the moment has to be 100% on Yorkshire,” added Lyth.

“I had a great season in 2016, scoring just under 2,000 runs, so I need to make sure I hit the ground running in 2017, kick on and perform again this year.

“I’m feeling really sharp and ready to get going now. The season will soon be here and I can’t wait to get started now.”
