Cup success for Bridlington Alexandra Bowls Club teams
The Driffield and District Midweek Cup saw the Bridlington Alexandra A team away to neighbours Driffield town A, such games always being closely contested affairs and this one proved no different.
D McCall/M Hobson/B McCall were 5-1 down after only 3 ends and 11-3 down after 9, but a fightback saw them draw level at 11-11 by end 12.

The game then slipped away from them, however, and steady bowling by Driffield saw them eventually run away with a 21-12 win.
The other rink saw J Buckle/J Mitchell/L Mitchell 10-0 up after the first 4 ends, including a 5 on end 3, but the Driffield triple settled and won the following 4 ends to draw within 3 shots.
Although Bridlington won the next 2 ends Driffield hit back again and by end 13 they only trailed by 4 shots.
The Alex triple were not daunted and continued to bowl steadily and accurately, taking the next 4 ends to lead 18-9. This brought the aggregate scores level in a game that is decided on aggregate.
On end 17 Driffield scored 1 shot which took them into the overall lead, but by the time both skips had delivered 2 woods on the final end Bridlington were holding 4 shots which would give the team overall victory.
The Driffield skip stepped up and delivered his last wood but the bowl did not disturb the head, leaving the Bridlington skip to decline bowling her last wood and thereby win the game for the team to give the Alex an exciting 34-31 victory.
