East Coast Tigers shine at season opener in Newcastle

Scarborough-based cheerleading club East Coast Tigers attended their first competition of the season on Sunday in Newcastle.

Their four stunt groups youth level 1, junior level 1, senior level 2 and senior level 3 have all been working extremely hard since September to perfect their routines ahead of the big day.

After four amazing performances with no deductions, all stunt groups placed first in their divisions and the youth 1 and senior 3 groups brought home the two Grand Champion titles, which saw them both achieve the highest scores of the whole competition.

“Our goal is always to achieve zero deductions,” said head coach Jess Mortimer.

“We aim for that in our programme as that means the girls put out the best performance they possibly could.

“We only ever want to do our best out there and the trophies and titles are a bonus.

“Four first place trophies and two grand champion titles at our first competition of the season is just incredible.

“Our coaching team are so proud of all of our athletes for their dedication week in week out towards achieving these results.

“We compete again this Saturday in Manchester with our senior team and we are hoping for more success.”
