The Hackness and Scarborough Tennis Club Mixed A and B teams played each other in Driffield and District League Division Three.

As expected the A team came out on top by nine rubbers to nil.

For the A team Sue Crocker was with her usual partner Rob Berry who have proved almost unbeatable this season.

Maria Jackson played with Mark Draper and Hannah Longman with Steve Brindle.

For the B team Vicki Calow was with Bryan Edwards, Judy Milburn partnered Nathan Whiting and Sue Kendall with Dave Flinton.

Hopefully this should secure promotion for the A team and possibly wrap up the title victory, while the B team are perilously close to the bottom of the division.

The Mixed C team eased to a 9-0 win against Sledmere D at Hackness, moving them ever closer to the Division 5 title.

New pair Hannah Benson partnered Paul Davidson, Louise Attley was with Tom Hunt and Jane Thompson with Steve Jepson.

Both the Hackness and Scarborough Ladies teams had excellent wins.

The A team won 8-1 at home against Market Weighton B in Division 2 to give them a chance of promotion to the premier division.

Sue Kendall and Jackie Speakman took three superb rubbers as did Sue Crocker and Maria Jackson, Hazel Cross with Hester Butterworth added two more for a very good night’s work.

The B team won 7-2 at Pocklington D in Division Three.

Anne Schmuck with Hannah Longman led the way with three rubbers leaving Vicki Calow and Jean Blenkiron and Judy Milburn with Jen Fell with two rubbers each.

The Men’s B and D teams, who were meant to be playing at home, recorded 9-0 victories as opposition failed to turn up.

This was unexpected but puts both teams in strong positions. It secures top spot for the D team in Division 7 and the B team moves to the top end of Division Three.

The other two teams were at Beverley and East Riding.

The A team, in Division One, travelled with a very different side from the one that won last week against Bridlington.

It contained three B team players as well as a player making his debut for the club.

The result wasn’t a surprise as the team lost 9-0. Mark Draper partnered Simon Rigg, Loius Fell played with Paul Banyard and PJ Guthrie with newcomer Ollie Cordingley.

The Men’s C team had its normal side out in Division 4, where it is struggling to win, and this form continued as they lost 8-1 against the Beverley and East Riding C team, who they beat earlier in the season.

The scoreline doesn’t reflect the evening’s competition which was very close throughout.

Mark White and Dan Marr took the only rubber.

John Reay with Dave Flinton lost their usual tiebreak despite having four match-points. Peter Lee and Paul Davidson battled hard all evening for no return.

They need to win the last game at home to Bridlington to have any chance of beating the drop.
