Rising Scarborough ABC star Riley Wilford earns victory in Hull
The task of continuing Scarborough ABC’s successful 2023/24 boxing season was passed to Riley Wilford, who made the trip down to Hull to face a determined hometown boxer in Jacob Murphy from the Lionheart Boxing Academy.
From the first bell, Murphy aggressively attacked Wilford, throwing heavy blows at the Scarborough boxer.

To his credit, Wilford refused to be subdued and demonstrated a tight defense from behind which he produced effective counter punches to outscore his opponent, for the duration of a highly competitive round.
Moving into the second round, Wilford appeared to find success as he began to make better use of the ring moving in and out of range to land his own punches, without giving Murphy the opportunity to strike back.

However, as the round progressed, the Hull boxer managed to again draw Wilford back into close range, where some heated exchanges then took place before the round ended.
The third and final round saw two, fit, young boxers meet in the middle of the ring where proceedings continued as both boxers again impressed the crowd with the variety of blows used in an effort to secure victory.
Again it looked from ringside, that it was the Scarborough boxer who was the more clinical with his punches that appeared to land more frequently than those thrown by Murphy.
Consequently, when proceedings were brought to an end it was indeed, Wilford's hand that was raised in victory, who was awarded a unanimous points victory.
Also in action at Hull, was Wilford's clubmate, Spencer Taylor who took part in another non scoring skills bout against Satyar Shabahang of the City of Hull Boxing Club.
Both young boxers produced good technique, throughout three entertaining rounds of novice boxing with Taylor, in particular, demonstrating how he is now ready for competitive boxing.
