Sarah and Katie fire Danby Ladies to home win against Norton

Danby Hockey Club Ladies put in a confident and controlled performance at home to earn a deserved 2-0 win against Norton in an energetic and well-fought contest.

The home side started brightly, moving the ball well and applying early pressure.

The breakthrough came when Sarah Thompson calmly finished a well-worked attacking move to give Danby the lead and set the tone for the match.

Norton responded with periods of pressure, but Danby remained composed at the back. A brilliant save from goalkeeper Catherine Adamson proved crucial, keeping Danby in front at a key moment and preserving the team’s momentum.

In midfield, Danby were dominant throughout. Kathryn Hogarth and Alice Hogarth worked tirelessly in the centre of the pitch, winning possession and linking play effectively.

Rosie Hogarth was outstanding, consistently dictating the tempo and dominating the middle of the field, while Lily Harland drove forward with purpose, creating chances and stretching the Norton defence.

Danby’s hard work was rewarded with a second goal from Katie Hodgson, who finished confidently to extend the lead and give the home side breathing space.

From there, Danby managed the game well, showing discipline, teamwork, and determination to see out the win.

A strong all-round performance capped off a positive day for Danby, with solid defending, creative midfield play, and clinical finishing earning a well-deserved clean sheet and three points

Danby 2s hosted Hartlepool on Saturday, facing a challenging and fast-paced encounter that ended in a 2-0 loss.

Hartlepool came out strong from the first whistle, launching an early attack and applying immediate pressure on the Danby defence.

Despite this, Danby showed resilience at the back, with Hettie Cook and Ellie Jackson-Fishpool working seamlessly in defence to break down attacks and clear the ball effectively.

After a sustained period of relentless pressure, Hartlepool were eventually rewarded with their first goal.

Danby, however, remained composed and determined, pushing forward on several counter-attacks.

Chloe Walker and Eva Gallon linked up well on the left side, driving the ball forward and putting pressure on the Hartlepool defence.

The half concluded with Hartlepool leading 1-0.

Following the break, Danby returned to the pitch with renewed determination and energy. Despite many high-pressure attacks from Danby, Hartlepool managed to secure a second goal.

Danby regrouped and continued to press the Hartlepool side, creating opportunities but ultimately being unable to convert them into goals.

A standout performance came from goalkeeper Rhoda Spark, who was awarded Player of the Match for her relentless efforts and numerous crucial saves that prevented Hartlepool from extending their lead further.

It was a very tough day on the pitch for Whitby Hockey Club Ladies.

What began as a strong, confident performance ultimately ended in disappointment.

Whitby went into half-time deservedly winning 1-0, looking comfortable and well organised. Sam Dixon, following in her sister’s footsteps between the posts, put in an outstanding performance in goal and pulled off a number of fantastic saves to keep Whitby ahead.

Unfortunately, with no substitutes available, the game took a cruel turn early in the second half when Michelle Paling suffered a stick to the face. With Michelle unable to continue, Whitby were forced to play the remainder of the match with just ten players.

Naturally, concern for their injured teammate affected the side, and heads dropped as the extra workload began to tell. Gateshead took advantage of the numerical advantage, eventually running out 5-1 winners despite Whitby’s brave efforts.

A harsh result for a Whitby team that showed quality, resilience, and teamwork, especially in the first half but one that underlined the importance of squad depth and a bit of luck on the day.
