The event was due to have been held on Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12.

A statement on the festival's Facebook page said: "This is just to let you know that we have had no alternative but to cancel the National Youth Series event at Scarborough this year.

"The council have been in touch to explain the pavilion will be unavailable to use as it requires urgent repairs that will not be done by the time our event is run which means we would have to bring in portable showers and toilets, which we just wouldn't be able to afford.

"We are also expecting British Cycling to extend the ban on all cycling events to at least the end of July so it was very unlikely we would be running anyway. As a result, the whole festival will need to be cancelled.

"We are really disappointed but have every intention of running next year (2021) and I hope you will all be on board with us in hopefully much easier times. British Cycling have confirmed that we will not need to re tender for next year as it will be awarded to us automatically.

"The committee hope you will return to support the Festival next year - STAY SAFE!"
