Scarborough’s gym stars shine in Gran Canaria

A team of 21 gymnasts from Scarborough Gymnastics Academy (SGA) travelled to Gran Canaria to take part in the International TeamGym Cup and Blume Festival.

Scarborough secured three new titles and two second places at the international TeamGym Cup.

All teams put in a fantastic performance at the competition which was held at the University of Las Palmas.

SGA coach Nicola Walker said: “The trip was a huge success and SGA would like to say a huge well done to all the gymnasts who took part.

“We are all very proud of all the gymnasts’ achievements, they all performed brilliantly.

“Many of the gymnasts got the chance to show off new skills that they have been working hard to to perfect.

“All the gymnasts performed brilliantly and put on such a great show after many weeks of hard work and preparation.

“Big thanks to all the club coaches, officials and gymnasts families who have made the trip possible.”

Coach Walker was also quick to thank SGA’s many sponsors.

She added: “SGA would like to say a huge thank you to Abbey Gas, Temple Spa, RF Racing, Northern Cladding, MKM, Mickey the Brickey, Chrisfit, WKF 98 welding and Maintenance, Centurion Windows and Barclays Bank, who have all made generous donations towards the new kit.”
