Scarborough's Jack Bird reflects on World Indoor Championships experience after defeat in last 16 against Simon Skelton

Bird stunned the bowls world when he despatched world champion and favourite Robert Paxton on Monday.

That led Bird to a last 16 encounter with Commonwealth Games gold medalist Skelton, who recovered from a shaky start to win 8-5, 8-3.

Speaking to the BBC after the match, the Scarborough 24-year-old said: "I thought I started off quite well, I was pretty comfortable early on.

"But Simon played really well off the shorter jacks and he just played me out of the game after that.

"He was definitely the more consistent player and deserved to win the match and I wish him all the best.

"It's all positives though, it's a daunting place to come, even without a crowd.

"Hopefully I can come back one day and try to get a little further hopefully."

Bird earlier agonisingly lost out in the semi-finals of the World Indoor Bowls Championships Open Pairs.

Bird and his partner Stuart Irwin lost to Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney in last four of the competition.
