Six Scarborough Athletic Club runners pay tribute to Sean Kelly at London Landmarks event

Eleven Scarborough Athletic Club members, plus a guest, took part in the annual London Landmarks Half Marathon, which is primarily a fund-raising event for charities, and since the first run in 2018 has raised £85million and this year the total is expected to achieve £18m.

The Scarborough club members involved raised a most impressive total of £7,365 for their designated charities.

Sean’s wife Julie Kelly, who was taking part in a half marathon for the first time, was joined by six friends who collectively raised funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. They started together and crossed the finish line together as planned. This wasn’t about finish times but about raising funds and awareness for the RCLCF in Sean’s memory.

Julie said: “We are all still buzzing from Sunday, and so humbled and proud to have raised so much for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. We couldn't have achieved this without all of your fabulous generosity and support.”

The Roy Castle Foundation said: “Team Miles & Smiles for Sean have officially crossed the finish line at the London Landmarks Half Marathon — completing 13.1 miles in honour of someone so deeply loved.

“Julie, Debbie, Tracy, Sue, Karen and Carey ran every step for Sean — carrying his memory with them through every mile, every cheer, and every moment of the day.

“What started as a tribute became something even bigger: a powerful show of love, friendship and support for everyone affected by lung cancer.
