Trophy joy for Scarborough Squash Academy stars Ben Squires & Josh Mowat at Malton junior bronze tournament
Squash continues to grow at the Silver Royd-based Scarborough Squash Academy with success on the junior front and the introduction of a third team into the York and District League.
Coach Lew Marsden could not hide his joy this week as two of his juniors came away with trophies from the weekend’s junior bronze tournament hosted by Malton.

In the Boys Under-17 competition, Ben Squires (15) took out all in front of him including beating the region’s number one by three games to nil to take the title.
In the Under-11s section, Josh Mowat, at nine years, showed no fear against older players.

Josh defeated seeds 2, 3 and 4 but fell short of the title finishing second to a very strong player.
Marsden said: ''Both players have put in a tremendous effort on the practice courts for years now and are reaping the rewards.
"They, along with others in the junior section, will go on to win further titles and put Scarborough firmly on the junior map.”
Made up of Marsden’s fast improving juniors and others wanting a taste of competitive squash, the team entered York & District League 5 and the games have come thick and fast.

Up first for the team was Thornton Le Dale, probably the most experienced team in league 5.
Though Scarborough were defeated 17-3 the team put in a great effort.
A proud moment for first team stalwart Jamie Gledhill as he watched his sons Xavi and Zeke compete for the first time but unfortunately both were defeated.
Scott McCabe dusted off his racquet, but he too was defeated along with Tom Hunt. Junior Harry Amstell was the only winner with a hard earned 3-0 victory.
Next up were Malton at home with Lew choosing to shuffle the team to give all squad players a chance.
It again proved a tough night, but the team dug in with wins for debutants Jim Mowat and Ben Mason whilst Xavi and Zeke were again defeated along with Josh Soulsby.
Though losing 15-9 the signs are there that the team will gain its first victory.
Next up are Kirkbymoorside.
