Walker, Muir and Gosling win Remembrance Drawn Triples at Borough
On Sunday Borough were the hosts again for The Remembrance Drawn Triples, sponsored by Alan and Jane Lee from North Cliff, played on Ladies Inter-District day to encourage bowlers who do not often enter merits.
The competition is limited to 36 entrants and the 12 “best” bowlers are selected as team leaders with their teammates drawn at random.

It is also a Round Robin with each team playing a 5 end game against each of the 11 others which makes for a longish day. The winners are decided by the aggregate scores.
The outcome of this type of competition is usually difficult to predict and this one was no exception.

The eventual winning trio was Simon Walker (Borough), David Muir (Eastfield) & Barry Gosling (Borough) a steady looking combination but not one that stood out as likely winners.
That steadiness proved to be key point as they won 8 of their 11 games drew 1 and lost 2, 1 by only 1 for a total score of 62.
In second place were Robert Child (North Cliff), Ed McCormack (North Cliff) & Tommy Roberts (Whitby) on 56 and in third place on 51 were Les Ramm (Borough), Steve Dover (Whitby) & Tony Bland (Borough).
The Ladies Inter-District team travelled to Beeston in Leeds District to play at Leeds South Conservative Club against Huddersfield and Leeds.
Their first game was against a strong Huddersfield team and only won 2 games in a 193-149 defeat although there were 6 games that were reasonably close and only 2 that were heavy losses.
The winners were Katie Gates (Dukes Park) and team captain Lisa Watson (Hunmanby).
There was some consolation in the second match against Leeds which our team won 201-168 even though this was not enough to progress further in the competition.
The winners were Jo Leeman (Whitby), Sue Purcell (Whitby), Jennie Allen (Hunmanby), Lynn Gates (Borough), Deb Stallard (Hunmanby) and Lisa Watson.
Three of the losses were 21-20 with the other being 21-15, a very creditable performance by our ladies team.
On Friday there is no Over-60s merit as we have a team entered in the Hickson Trophy to be played in West Riding District with our team starting out with a match against Sheffield on Spen Victoria No 2 Green with the prospect of a quarter-final against the winner of Wakefield v Huddersfield on the same green.
On Sunday there is an Open Singles at Hunmanby. Entries in advance to the Merit Secretary.
There were no matches in the Wednesday Over-60s League as the semi-finals of the Knock Out Cup and Shield were being played in the evening.
In the Cup Hunmanby pulled off a rather surprising win, 231-174 (9-3), against Borough A at Eastfield to face North Cliff A in the final after North Cliff had an even bigger win, 231-160 (9-3), over Whitby at Borough.
In the Shield Borough B flew the flag for their club though with a convincing 238-168 (8-4) win against Eastfield at Hunmanby while Bridlington Bay just made it to the final with a 207-202 (7-5) win against North Cliff B at Dukes Park.
The Shield Final will be played on Wednesday 8 July and the Cup Final n Wednesday 22 July, at venues yet to be confirmed, both matches starting at 6pm.
In the Evening Doubles League Borough B had a narrow 73-71 (3-1) away win against Hunmanby while Eastfield lost 83-66 (3-1) at home to Gukes Park.
In the other matches Whitby had a clean sweep, 84-38, at home to North Cliff B, North Cliff A won 73-56 (2-2) at home to Bridlington Bay and Borough C beat Westgate 75-48 (3-1) at home.
There were also no Saturday Singles matches as this weekend had been designated as a Yorkshire Cups weekend.
In the event there were no matches in the Derrick Radley Cup, the competition in which we still have representatives.
Dukes Park will take on North Cliff at Whitkirk (Leeds District) on Saturday 18 July guaranteeing us a team in the semi-finals.
