Whitby Jets Under-12s face Scarborough Seahawks and York Eagles in opening North Yorkshire Regional Basketball League games
Whitby Jets Under-12s started their North Yorkshire Regional Basketball League (NYRBL) season with two games hosted by York Eagles at York College.
The Jets are a young side, most of the 11 players experiencing their first taste of competitive basketball.
They played back-to-back games against Eagles and Scarborough Seahawks, both bigger and more established, experienced teams.
While Whitby were beaten in both games they kept running and played with enthusiasm and commitment. Solomon Stainsby and Rossi Pearson top-scored for Jets and Oliver Stevens was awarded the MVP trophy for his defensive work in both games.
Overall, a fantastic start to the U12s NYRBL Central Venue League (CVL), a strong Eagles roster taking the honours. Well done Seahawks for finishing runners-up.
It was also fantastic to support young and developing officials as, without them, basketball games wouldn’t go ahead.
Week 2 in November will see Queen Ethelburgas’s join the league.
A big thank-you to NYRBL CVL sponsor Claras who have supported Jets since they formed three years ago, giving great support to basketball in North Yorkshire.
