Local darts players Mark Heseltine and Rich Andrew decided to try and start the new event for Autumn 2021, at Bridlington CYP, to fill the gap left by the former BDO’s events held in Bridlington at The Spa in the past, such as the BDO British Open and Winmau World Masters.

Heseltine said: “We have managed to get the biggest name in darts.

“Winmau Darts has agreed to be headline sponsor, so the event is now called The Winmau East Coast Open and Classic.

“We are still looking for a sponsor for the stage finals board.

“We’re very excited at the prospect of Winmau getting involved as it gives the event a lot more credibility and national if not international coverage.

“We would like to thank Simon Hall, the global head of marketing at Winmau, for getting behind the event.

“The last event they were involved in was a few years ago and they are really pleased to be back in Bridlington.”

The event has also been given another boost as the Disability England Darts Association (DEDA) are holding a World Disabled Darts Association (WDDA) ranking event running alongside the East Coast event on both days.

Heseltine said: “The ranking event will go towards gaining enough ranking points to qualify for the WDDA World Championships.

“We are really pleased to accommodate the DEDA event and makes the whole event more inclusive.”

Any local companies wanting to sponsor the stage finals board can get in touch with Mark on [email protected] or 07818406644 or Rich Andrew on 07841924085.
