Owner Outhart's hope for Cheltenham

Things get underway for the former Scarborough FC winger this week when The Romford Pele aims to make his mark at the Cheltenham Festival.

The 10-year-old has been entered in Wednesday's Coral Cup under the guidance of jockey Jonathan Moore and has been given surprisingly long odds of 40/1.

The Romford Pele could then be one of four horses from the stable owned by a syndicate of Outhart, Roy Hyde, Chris Trembath and Martin Hill who will be at Aintree for the Grand National meeting at the beginning of next month.

O'Faolain's Boy has been confirmed in the main event, while Vintage Vinnie goes in the Topham Chase and Just A Thought runs in the Mayor's Bumper.

Outhart said: "I'm really looking forward to it, starting with Cheltenham, which is my favourite week of the year.

"At the moment the weather is perfect for The Romford Pele, hopefully it will stay dry because he really benefits from the good ground.

"He came seventh last year, but was only four lengths off the winner Diamond King.

"I'm not saying he's going to win it, but he definitely shouldn't be at 40/1."

Outhart and fellow syndicate member Hyde will show their interesting method of checking out the ground before the festival gets underway tomorrow.

He added: "We are both into keep fit, so we'll probably have a run round the course to see how things are. It is a good way to check out the going."
