The Sherburn School pupil clinched the title on Saturday at the eighth and final round of the British Quad XC Championship in Kettering.

Freddie’s proud dad Paul, who also takes part in the senior category of the championship, said: “Freddie was five points ahead going into the final race and needed to finish at least second but he won it to claim the title.”

The rising star, who was competing in the 50cc class for under-eights, added: “I wanted to race just like my dad and it was great to win and get the trophy on Sunday.”

The Sawdon-based youngster, who also regularly races with Scarborough club Mud in your Blood on Seamer Road, is a keen all-round sportsman as he also likes to play tennis, football, cricket and golf.

Paul said: “We have been all over the country competing in the quad events this year and he has done brilliantly, but there is a lot of travelling involved so maybe next year we may be looking at motocross events.

“I had a podium finish the other week in my race but the main focus has been Freddie this year as he has done brilliantly.”
