This is the third time the teams have met this year with both teams having won a game apiece, but the decider was cut short due an injury to Brotherton’s number-nine with the scores level at 28-28.

Harry Burgess opened the scores with a rampaging run in the very first set and he ended with a hat-trick, while Cooper Paddock got a brace of tries and converted all but two.

Looking back on the season coach Keith Paddock said: “The season started off well with a couple of wins.

“We then had a run of six away games, this took its toll on the lads and we had a losing streak, knocking the lads’ confidence.

“Halfway through the boys started to pick it back up and started playing rugby instead of just one-up carries and one-man tackles.

“The back end really came together, myself and Nick Burgess were very proud of theireffort and way we finished the season.”
