Scarborough RUFC girls teams kicked off 2023 with a trip to Driffield on Sunday.

Scarborough Under-14s played against Thornensians with Driffield.

Scarborough started very slow allowing the opposition to dominate the ball, the ruck and run through the visiting defence scoring quick tries.

The Scarborough girls re-grouped just before the end of the first quarter with Anabelle Drake scoring the visitors’ first try of the day.

Scarborough were a transformed team in the second quarter, going back to their strengths, driving hard, supporting their team mates and dominating the breakdown resulting in Courtney Byerley scoring a try.

Thorne did not have an answer to Scarborough’s dominate play with Aleisha Owuor, Erin Smith and Esther Wallace going over for tries.

In the second half, Megan Orrels went into contact taking out Thorne’s defence allowing Scarborough to shift the ball quickly along the line to allow debutant Amelia Butterfield to move into fifth gear and sprint through and score her first-ever try.

Gaps started to appear in Thorne’s defence and Scarborough took advantage with debutant Emma Welford using her pace to go around Thorne and score her first-ever try and seal victory.

Scarborough U16s joined with Driffield to play against Thorne with Alicia Darley, Ella Byerley and Ellie Pick all having another impressive game.

Scarborough U12s joined with Thorne and Driffield to play a series of matches, Alex Glew, Beth Chandler, Esmee Dale and India Pearson taking part.
