SIMON SMITH: Driffield the best side we have faced this season

We may have lost 43-7 on Saturday, but two or three of their tries came from us trying to stay in the game and get something from it.

This was the best performance from an opposing side this season, including leaders York, as Driffield were very strong and confident throughout.

When you see them playing like this it is clear they should be pushing for the title as opposed to being fourth in North One East.

I cannot really criticise my players too much as they were pushing all the time to get some points on the board when we could easily have shut up shop and we will also take some heart from scoring the final try of the game and refusing to give in.

Driffield are a very strong club, their seconds won by 50 points against Sheffield Tigers on Saturday, and although our Vikings and Danesmen claimed wins against Driffield sides it was against their third and fourth teams respectively, so they have an extra 18 players on us.

With three teams being relegated this season we are in a group of around six or seven sides who are in danger of finishing in the third-from-bottom spot.

We have five games left now, with three at home starting with Morley at Silver Royd on Saturday, so we need to get some wins on board and secure our safety as soon as possible.

Morley are just above us so if we can get a win it drags them into it and gives us a a lift.

Tom Harrison is missing the Morley game as he took a blow to head at Driffield and he is ruled out due to the concussion protocol, but we are fortunate that another first-team player, Henry Hocking, will come in for him after proving his recovery from a hamstring injury with a man of the match display for the Vikings.

Phil Watson, who also played for the Vikings last week, is also available so that strengthens our squad.
