SIMON SMITH: The season has been full of highs and lows

Everyone in the club was hurting after Saturday’s defeat and it was disappointing to lose a must-win game.

We tried our hardest and that’s all I ask of the lads but we fell just short.

It was gut-wrenching and for us to have created chances throughout the game and not take them was the ultimate blow.

We worked hard across the course of the game and it was great to see Angus (Frend) come into a little bit of form and pick up two tries.

When you’re in bad form, decisions and results don’t go your way and it’s difficult to grind out those wins.

If you look back to last season, we would score tries from nowhere and the ball was bouncing in our favour.

The season has been full of highs and lows and we’ve all been on a journey.

Losing players to injuries is always a blow and it knocked us but players have stepped up and helped us out.

If you look at players like Joe Nellist, Will Rennard, Sam Jackson and Tom Anderson they have all stepped up for us across the course of the season and hopefully gained valuable experience.

Overall, I’ve been really impressed by the character that the players have shown and I am proud to have coached them.

Our Vikings side are fighting for a finish in the top four places in their league after a superb win against a strong Driffield and it’s great that, even when we are taking players, they are still able to perform well and continue their strong form.

I have no idea what will happen in the next few months.

Financially it will affect clubs across the country and we are a big club and staff members will need to be looked after over the next few months.
