Title delight for Scarborough RUFC Head Coach Ben Foden
Scarborough RUFC Head Coach Ben Foden has shared his delight following his side being crowned Regional Two North East champions on Saturday afternoon.
Their opponents, Doncaster Phoenix, made the difficult decision to forfeit Saturday’s game but were committed to turning up and playing a friendly against Foden’s side.

Speaking following the final whistle, the former England international said: “Obviously it’s an accumulation of a lot of hard work from the coaches, from the players, and I am delighted with how the season has gone.
“There was a mid-season slip with our three losses, but once we put that right we got things back on track and we’ve definitely gone from strength to strength.

“It’s credit to the boys, you know, it’s taken a 25/26/27-man effort from the squad but we knew that was going to be the case, what with injuries and people being away but I’m delighted for the boys.”
Foden took the time to reflect on the journey his side have been on as well as looking back on the successes of his own career.
He added: “Obviously they were the bridesmaids last year, and when came in I spoke with Matty (Jones) and Phil (Stewart) about just putting the finishing touches on and finishing top of the league was what was expected of us as coaches.
“Obviously as an old player, you look back in your career and there’s not many moments you actually get to enjoy winning a trophy.

“The boys have got to enjoy this moment, soak it in because It was a great day for the club.”
The challenge now for Foden’s side is extending their unbeaten run, as they take on Pontefract and Bradford Salem in the final two games of the season.
The Silver Royd-based team make the trip to Pontefract this coming Saturday, March 28, for their final away league game of the season, and then will cap their season with a final home match against Bradford Salem two weeks later, on Saturday April 11.
Scarborough have earned a superb 88 points so far this season in 20 league matches, winning 17 and scoring 650 points and conceding 339, and are currently 15 points clear of second-placed Pocklington.
