Skipper Cathy-Ann Myers praised her team for a “strong” performance and said she was able to take plenty of positives from the game.

“I’m really pleased, we were strong from the start,” she added.

“We knew what to expect having beaten Acklam heavily earlier in the season, so we went out in the first half to try and get as many points on the board as possible.

“In the second period we made the most of the opportunity to try out a few different things and experiment with players in other positions.

“It’s one thing practising on the training ground, however having the composure to execute these things in a match is different, but the changes we made ended up being big positives for us.”

In a fine all-round team display, Myers was particularly impressed by the performance of the Valkyries’ front row.

“Everyone stepped up in this game, but our scrummaging was superb and we only lost one scrum in the whole match,” she said.

“Our front row of Laura Welburn, Leah Gillen and Sam Knight deserve a lot of credit.

“In the backs, Dani Rowley 10 also did very well at number 10.”
