Scalby Mixed B hot-shots prove too strong for neighbours
Scalby Tennis Club enjoyed another busy week of Driffield League action, their teams pushing for promotion in their respective divisions.
On Tuesday evening, Scalby's Mixed B side hosted rivals Scarborough and Hackness C and secured an impressive 6-3 victory.

Maaike Karrimans and Rob Tucker led the way with a flawless performance, winning all three matches.
Lauren Asquith and Jack Boddy added two valuable points, while Steph Pride and Tony Owen completed the victory with a hard-earned point.
The win keeps the Mixed B team firmly in second place and well placed for the remainder of the campaign.
Scalby’s Mixed A team lost at Hutton Cranswick.
Despite battling throughout the evening, Scalby found points hard to come by.
The newly-formed partnership of Milly Sidaway and Chris Northey provided the visitors’ only success, collecting Scalby’s points on the night.
Julie Boddy and Tobie Hillier, along with Helen Creaser and Toby Shaw, competed strongly in every round but were unable to get on the scoresheet.
Wednesday night saw Scalby’s Ladies A team lose 7-2 at home to a strong Market Weighton A side.
The match developed into a marathon encounter, with the final point not completed until 10pm.
All three Scalby pairs competed with great determination, but Weighton’s patient defensive style and ability to grind out lengthy rallies ultimately proved decisive.
Milly Sidaway and Julie Boddy remained positive throughout and earned both of Scalby’s points.
Despite applying relentless pressure, neither Magda Phillips and Helen Flinton nor Maaike Karrimans and Louise Tomlinson were able to add to the tally.
Thursday evening brought another excellent result as the Men’s B team travelled to Driffield LTC for an evening of grass-court tennis.
Scalby strengthened their position at the top of the table with an emphatic 7-2 victory. The scoreline could easily have been even more convincing, with Tony Owen and Ben Sargent narrowly missing out in a second-round tie-break.
Rob Tucker and Toby Shaw both enjoyed perfect evenings, winning all three rounds, while Andy and Nathan Smith also completed maximum returns.
The result leaves the Men’s B side looking increasingly likely to secure a second successive promotion as they continue to set the pace at the top of the division.
