Beverley have been in freefall for a couple of years now suffering relegation in the last two seasons from National League Three and then North One conceding over 2,000 points in the process.

However they have stabilised this season and sit third in Yorkshire One which is a mighty relief for everyone at their Beaver Park HQ.

Last week they scored three first-half tries to lead 19-6 at the break against struggling Heath.

The west Yorkshiremen won the second half 10-0 and Beverley held on for a 19-13 win.

The clubs last met back in 2002 when Scarborough scraped a narrow 3-0 win at Newby so tomorrow will be Beverley’s first league visit to Silver Royd.

To add further spice to the proceedings Scarborough’s first Youth Development Officer Junior Tupai, now Director of Rugby at Beaver Park, who scored a try last week, will play for the visitors.

With four league places but only two points separating the teams the Seasiders could move into promotion territory with a win on Saturday.

Coach Lee Douglas has added Drew Govier, Bob Murphy and Billy Parker to his squad for the game with Alex Rowley and Ian Williams in the Vikings, while Phil Watson is also unavailable.

The travails are apparently not yet over at Beverley as they have failed to raise a second team to take on the Vikings at Beaver Park on Saturday.

The Silver Royd second string will now play Driffield 3rds at home with the Danesmen entertaining Driff’s 4ths.

Sunday sees The Valkyries in action, they take on Morpeth Ladies at Silver Royd kick-off 2pm.
