WALLY’S WAGERS: Don’t Touch’s top Ayr run

He was always prominent from the start, going up the centre of the track.

Even when he looked like been swamped in the final furlong he showed a great attitude sticking his head in front and looked to be going away when crossing the line.

Considering he has only had five career starts to date and the first of them came in May this year, running in a Class 5 Maiden at Newcastle to then go win an Ayr Gold Cup firstly shows the horse has ability and potential in abundance for only a three-year-old, and secondly a masterful training performance from Richard Fahey.

The trainer spoke highly of the horse after the race: “Today you see a horse who is more the finished article. He travelled better than he has before.

“I thought when he won his maiden at Newcastle that he might just be the right type for this race. Sometimes dreams do come true and this is a dream for me”

Malton-based Richard Fahey had a tremendous day throughout. A 5,984-1 four-timer at Ayr with Tatlisu winning the Silver Cup.

Another Touch, Don’t touch and Right Touch all obliged for trainer and owner which was remarkable on the day. Ribchester took the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury with a commanding performance, again trained by Fahey.

Newmarket have a fantastic card this weekend with the Cambridgeshire been the highlight event on Saturday.

The Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at 200 Saturday for two-year-olds normally is a good indicator for the Derby next year. Looking at the card it is extremely difficult in deciding what Aiden O’Brien will actually run.

He has nine entries at this stage.The unbeaten Deauville looks the best of them on form so far. I also like John Gosden’s chestnut colt Foundation who barely came off the bridle last time out.

Both horses look to have leading claims. My tip is back the one that runs and if both line up Foundation to just edge it.

The 2.35pm Cheveley Park Stakes also looks a tough one to call.

The three at the top of the market, Besharah, Lumiere and unbeaten Illuminate look to have the most obvious claims. Besharah beat Lumiere last time and Illuminate beat Besharah the time before that.

My opinion is that Lumiere was not suited by soft ground at York and if forecasted good ground should appear this nicely bred filly will be difficult to beat and should reverse the form over Besharah.

The Cambridgeshire will see Bronze Angel go for his hat-trick in the race, winning it last year and 2012. He looks to have obvious claims.

Having backed it all year I was left frustrated that it won last time out when i did not have a penny on.

If he had not win last time out I probably would’ve sided with him for this but a 4lb penalty for winning that has persuaded me to go with GM Hopkins for this race, as he looks ideally suited.
