Young St Peter's stars hit the heights to win first-ever title

The children qualified for the final by finishing third overall in the semi-finals, joining five other schools in the smaller schools battle at Filey Road Sports Centre.

In the end St Peter’s came out on top ahead of East Ayton, Wheatcroft, Bramcote, Cayton and Lindhead to land the first indoor athletics title in the history of the school.

Eighteen children took part and represented the school in a variety of events.

These included running races (one lap - four laps), long and triple jump, javelin and team relay races.

The competition was very fierce as St Peter’s winning margin was just a single point, with East Ayton pushing them close in a nail-biting contest.

St Peter’s sports co-ordinator Josh Greening said: “All children performed to the best of their ability and represented the school brilliantly.

“I am extremely proud of all of them.

“Nick Turley and Dan Brownbridge deserve a lot of credit for helping the children in school practice and prepare for the event.”

Year Six pupils Ella Brown and Eliza King said: “It was tough but very exciting.

“We were really happy with how we did and proud of everyone else from school”.

Ethan Regan, who is also in Year Six, said: “I thought the event was amazing, really fun, and I was pleased to beat my personal bests in the long jump and one-lap race.”
