New play takes to the floor

And this ballroom blitz has been garnering great reviews since it premiered at Oldham Coliseum.

Amanda - whose last play The Thrill of Love also visited Scarborough – watched ballroom and formation dancing in every setting from the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool to village halls.

“I went to Blackpool to watch it and to see how I could create drama from it,” she said.

“The result is a contrast between the bubble of ballroom and the real world. I got so much material, one teacher said ‘if it happens in life then it happens in ballroom’.”

The play looks at relationships of all kinds – couples and working relationships – and the affect dance as on them.

Amanda condensed her material into the story of Justin and Jodie who have finally made it to Blackpool’s national championships – via the motorway hard shoulder.

Luka’s come all the way from Russia. Nancy’s been training for this since she was three. Lee and Samantha arrive on a wave of success.

Kiss Me Quickstep runs from Tuesday to Saturday April 2, daily at 7.30pm except Thursday when the play starts at 7pm. There is a matinee on Thursday at 1.30pm and Saturday at 2.30pm,
