One last chance to joinin Scarborough's Curious Christmas Quest - meet outside Poundland and all will be explained

You have one more chance to follow Scarborough’s Curious Christmas Quest – a delightfully daft search for sparkle which takes participants on a tour of town centre shops.

The promenade play has been devised by Dance Ahead which lights up the streets with its signature storytelling style and is part of Scarborough Fair’s festive programme. The action starts outside Poundland with the wise Yarn Spinner, innocent Alice and cheeky Captain Jack Silverhook, wearing illuminated costumes. They then invite members of the audience o follow them – and Gulliver the seagull – to look at the variety of outlets which have devised gloriously festive windows.

The Curious Christmas Quest performance continues around shops and ends in a cafe where members of the audience can treat themselves to a cuppa and get treats and offers along the way.

There are 24 local shops doing the Countdown to Christmas and each day every shop is offering something special for customers – you just have to find the one with the number corresponding to the date – for instance, Wards of Scarborough is offering 50 per cent off everything on Christmas Eve.

Other shops being revealed this week include: M&J Tailoring and Dry Cleaning in Bar Street on Wednesday December 17; Le Cafe Jardin Bar Street, Thursday December 18; Eir’s Essence, Bar Street, Friday December 19; Ginger and Gray, St Nicholas Street, Saturday December 20; Grape Tree, Newborough, Sunday December 21; Stephen Joseph Theatre, Monday Deceber 22 and Starbucks, Westborough, Tuesday December 23.

Do not forget to look for those who have already opened their Advent calendar – Canova, Westborough; Chameleon Cafe, Bar Street; Herbal Seer, Bar Street; Greensmith and Thackeray, St Nicholas Street; Walkers, Bar Street; bookaclass.com, Newborough; Toyland; Newborough; Espresso Yourself, Falconers Road; Olive, Bar Street; Lilly’s Treasures, St Nicholas Street; Bonnets and Sons, Huntriss Row; Heart and Crafts, Bar Street; David Scaife, Huntriss Row; Caring 4 Critters, Huntriss Row; Nomination, Westborough, and Craft Bar, Northway.

The quest also serves as a reminder of how rich and diverse Scarborough’s shopping experience can be.

If you get lost following the quest’s three leaders – look for Gulliver the Seagull, held aloft for you to follow.

The last Scarborough’s Curious Christmas Quest can be joined at the Scarborough Fair marquee, outside Poundland, Westborough, on December 20 at 1pm and 3pm.
