Now fully cast and in rehearsal, Legally Blonde – The Musical promises to be the next in a string of box office hits and, like last year’s Sweet Charity, it’s the show’s first ever Scarborough staging.

It’s a first, too, for Sheryl Buttner, who has choreographed, performed and assistant-directed for the society many times, but now makes her directorial debut.

Stepping in for the first time on the production team are company regulars Dave Blaker, assistant director, Sarah Coc, dance captain, and Amanda Wademan, vocal coach. All three also perform in the show’s large cast.

It will be the first time for choreographer Katie Buttner and musical director Robert Schmuck to deliver these jobs in a fully-staged musical, the youngest ever to do so in the society’s history.

It’s no first for leading lady Tilly Jackson, who played title role in Annie and now returns to play Legally Blonde’s California babe heroine Elle Woods, who follows her errant boyfriend to Harvard Law School and finds herself the leading attorney in a murder trial andher man.

Based on the hit 2002 rom-com film starring Reese Witherspoon, with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, it enjoyed a West End run with Sheridan Smith.

It will be at YMCA Theatre, Scarborough, from Tuesday May 30 to Saturday June 3, daily at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinée on the Saturday.
