One of the more unusual upcoming new festival Scarborough Fringe events will be Musical Serenade at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday June at 7.30pm.

Popular local singing quartet Bill Scott and Friends are joined by guest flautist Kathy Seabrook, of the Spa Orchestra, in a cheekily eclectic evening of classical and popular music, mostly arranged by their maestro Bill Scott.

The quartet includes Bill Scott, Jan Burtenshaw-Scott, Lesley Machen and Tim Tubbs, and it’s the first time they’ve been joined by Kathy, who will add to some of their numbers with flute and percussion, besides playing solos from her own extensive repertoire.

An entertainingly diverse programme of classical and popular music is promised, from Bach to Bacharach, Debussy to The Drifters... and everything in between, be it 1930s ballads, 1960s pop or classical favourites.

“Expect anything from Irving Berlin to Phil Spector, from Madrigal to Mambo, from Rock n Roll to John Rutter” says Bill Scott, who directs and arranges for the group.

Bill Scott and Friends repeat the programme, with guest brass soloist John Barrett replacing Kathy Seabrook, at 7pm on Monday July 29 at Westborough Methodist Church.

For the concert on June 26 tickets £10 on the door or online at https://scarboroughfair.uk/events/musical-serenade/

Ticket for July 29 are £10 on the door.
