The two musical powerhouses have teamed up to perform together in six UK venues and tonight saw them head to TK Maxx presents Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
Opening the show was special guest Du Blonde who treated the crowd to a great set of psychedelic rock.
Garbage – Shirley Manson, Butch Vig and the gang – performed a deep dive into their sensational back catalogue which included Paranoid, Stupid Girl, Grow Up, Vow and the timeless 90’s anthem I’m Only Happy When It Rains.
Shirley Manson had a fantastic stage presence, getting the crowd on their feet with her distinctive and powerful voice. She ended their set by screaming “Scarborough, you have been magic!
"We are going to play one last song, and it is a love song – it’s about you!” – and the haunting synth of The Day That I Met God echoed throughout the venue.
They were followed by Skunk Anansie – fronted by the incredible Skin – who delivered an explosive set which included Weak As I Am, Lost Not Found, Shame and Tear The Place Up.
Skin addressed the audience, stating that this gig was particularly special because the band’s drummer, Mark Richardson, was originally from Scarborough and it had been a life-long dream of his to play Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
To celebrate this homecoming gig, Skin invited Mark’s wife Erika to join her on stage for a captivating duet.
My favourite moment of the night was when Skin grabbed a go pro and showed it to the crowd with a mischievous grin on her face. She asked if Scarborough was going to look after her, which was met with an excited scream.
Launching herself into the crowd, Skin somehow managed to keep up her incredible vocals as she bounced her way through the audience, getting awe-struck fans to join in. Skin then crowd surfed while filming everything on the go pro so that the rest of the audience could watch in amazement as the iconic singer was jostled back to the stage.
Skin then shouted: “Whoever tried to pants me, you better try harder next time!” and with a joyful laugh continued the set, the electric atmosphere continuing all night.
