The Commitments 35th anniversary tour heading to Whitby with film screening and Motown hits
Stars of the award-winning 1991 film The Commitments will be stopping off in Whitby to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the classic movie with a special screening of the film, Q+A session and musical performance.
Robert Arkins, who played wiley band manager Jimmy Rabbitte, will be heading to The Royal Hotel on Saturday September 12 with his Commitments band, playing all the hits from the film including Mustang Sally, Try A Little Tenderness, Midnight Hour, Destination Anywhere, Nowhere To Run and many more soul classics.
Robert, who also sang a number of songs on the official soundtrack, will be embarking on a full UK and Ireland tour beginning in August and running through to October.
Support from Dublin, DJ Jacqui Carroll, will be playing all the best Motown and Northern Soul.

The hit film, directed by Alan Parker, saw Rabbitte – an unemployed Dubliner – put together a soul band made up entirely of the Irish working class.
It was notable for casting relative unknowns from Dublin, many of whom were musicians rather than actors.
Many dates on the tour are already sold out, with more being added.
