Race for Life Scarborough: Everything you need to know as the race returns for 2026
There is still time to sign up for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events in Scarborough, which aim to raise thousands of pounds for life-saving research.
The charity’s much-loved events, which raise funds for life-saving research, are returning to Scarborough today (May 20).

This year, there is a chance to take part in 3k, 5k and 10k events, which will all take place at the Sealife Centre, Scalby Mills Road.
Each event is open to all ages and abilities.
Annabel Underwood, Cancer Research UK’s spokesperson in North Yorkshire, said: “It’s time for Scarborough to go all in against cancer, all in to help fund life-saving research.
“Sadly nearly 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime but all of us can support the research that will beat it. Spring is an ideal time to commit to getting more active as the days get a little warmer.
“We’d love for as many people as possible across Scarborough and North Yorkshire to join us. Race for Life powers progress and it relies on a whole community of people coming together, united by a common purpose to beat cancer.
"Whether you’re a five-a-side crew, book club, dance troupe, yoga club, fancy doing something with your friends- or on your own – we want everyone to join us.
“For those who do enjoy a challenge, our 10k events will again be chip timed, perfect for anyone wanting to track their progress or aim for a personal best. But Race for Life is non-competitive.
"People can walk, jog or run and go at their own pace. What matters is showing up together. There is a race for everyone and we mean everyone.”
The event start line is within the Sealife Centre Car park and the finish line is on the promenade, down from The Old Scalby Mill.
The 5k event offers a single lap route through the Open Air Theatre and along the promenade. The 10k course is a double-lap of the 5k course.
The terrain is all path and road and is suitable for all levels of fitness and experience.
This event can accommodate wheelchair users along a path and road course which is predominantly flat, but there is a 50m steep hill section leading from the promenade to the Open Air Theatre which will require assistance.
Start times are 10k 6.30pm, 5k 7pm and 3k 7pm.
People taking part are asked to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the start time so that they are prepared and ready to go on time.
The closest entrance to the event site for pedestrians on foot is via Scalby Mills Road, although general car parking is not available at this venue.
Entries are still open for this Race for Life and others across the region.
