Talk to raise funds for Flamborough Bird Observatory
A special event will be held at YWT Living Seas Centre, South Landing, on Sunday, February 15.
‘Rarity Garden – Talk and Art Auction’ will see Richard Baines deliver a presentation centred around his publication entitled ‘Rarity Garden’.
He will also be signing copies of his book at the event. This will be followed by an auction of beautiful original artwork featured in the book, created by artist Ben Green.
The auction will raise funds for the Flamborough Bird Observatory (FBO) as it marks its 50th anniversary.
The book is packed with photographs, drawings, paintings, and maps that showcase the true beauty of the area’s wildlife.
Mr Baines is a professional ecologist with 40 years of experience in wildlife conservation and the book contains plenty of information about local wildlife.
5% of all proceeds from the publication will be donated to the North Yorkshire Turtle Dove Project, which works to protect and restore habitats for one of the UK’s most endangered birds.
A spokesperson said: “Richard’s book is a deeply personal and beautifully illustrated account of a decade spent observing wildlife in one small garden perched on the cliffs of Flamborough Headland.
“Packed with nuggets of information for both keen birders and interested readers, this beautifully designed hardback book contains photographs, drawings, paintings, and maps. “It captures the true beauty of Flamborough and the wonder of its wildlife.”
A spokesperson added: “This is a very special year for Flamborough Bird Observatory as it celebrates 50 years of bird recording on the Great White Cape.
“This event will raise funds for access and wildlife conservation improvements at FBO.”
