ONE MAN Macbeth brings a unique Shakespeare experience to Burniston this Halloween
Audiences can experience Shakespeare’s classic tragedy like never before this Halloween weekend, as Matt Robair brings ONE MAN Macbeth to Burniston Village Hall for two performances.
The 70-minute production sees Robair take on every role in the play, combining live acting with pre-recorded scenes projected onto a large screen to create the illusion of a full cast. Matt Robair said: “ONE MAN MacBeth is a solo performance of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. After acting in productions on tour, I learned what can be made possible with a limited cast and condensed set/costumes.

“I set out to challenge the limitations of solo shows, and to see what is possible to pull off with Literally just one person.
“In several solo shows, there is often a backstage team controlling sound/lighting, and a director/company with other creatives to support the show. The concept for this play however, revolves around one person doing absolutely everything themselves.
“All that goes into a putting on a play/show, i.e. managing the lighting, sound and video quest with a remote control while simultaneously acting several parts live.
“In ONE MAN MacBeth, everything is done by one person! The music score has been composed, the musical instruments played and the music recorded/edited by one person.”
Performed entirely in Shakespeare’s original language, the production uses minimalist staging, rapid character changes, mirrors and a handful of props to bring the story to life.
Robair also operates the video, lighting and original music cues live during the show, creating a theatrical experience in which he performs every character while managing the technical elements himself.
ONE MAN Macbeth comes to Burniston Village Hall on Friday, October 31, and Saturday, November 1, with both performances starting at 7.30pm.
Doors open at 7pm.
