Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough takes a plaice in UK’s top 50
A restaurant in this area has been named one of the UK’s top 50 Fish and Chip Takeaways in the Fry Awards 2026.
Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough was hailed as one of the best in the country in the competition, run by Fry Magazine.

The event’s 50 Best Fish and Chip Takeaways and 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants 2026 celebrate the achievements of fish and chip shops nationwide.
The results follow months of judging in which takeaways, restaurants and mobile units were secretly assessed by mystery diners on a range of aspects such as food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.
The pass mark this year is very high – 97% for the takeaway category and 96% for the restaurant category – although several businesses were successful in gaining 100%.
This is the 14th year the awards have taken place and judges said they were, once again, impressed by the quality of entrants and the food served.
Commenting on its Facebook page, a Lighthouse Fisheries statement said: “We are pleased to share we are in the Top 50 Best Fish and Chip Takeaways of the UK 2026 with Fry Awards.
“Once again, thank you for your continued support! As a small business it means a lot.
“We hope we can continue bringing you the best fish and chips on the Yorkshire coast this season!”
Seven eateries in Yorkshire made it onto the list, including Trenchers in Whitby, which claimed a top 10 position.
Trencher’s said: “We’re proud to announce that The Fry Awards has named Trenchers of Whitby one of the Top 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants in the UK
“An achievement made possible by our hardworking team and the continued support of our customers."
