They were recently returned to the church and reassembled on-site at the cost of £53,000.

A spokesperson said: “St John’s Burlington Church Council is committed to continuing its responsibility to look after its Grade II Listed building, including the organ.

“The organ is 133 years old and is a fine example of the work of Forster and Andrews of Hull and has been well maintained, left largely unaltered, and respected by all concerned. It is testament to the quality of the instrument that it is still functioning.

“However, some of the original components had never been restored and were showing distinct signs of wear with materials becoming brittle and liable to fail.

“St John’s Burlington sits at the heart of the Old Town and is the only remaining Methodist Church in Bridlington.

“The restoration of the organ was seen by all as a priority, it is a focal point of the church, and the instrument was eminently worthy of restoration.

“Now restored, the instrument sounds fresher and livelier and is now fit for purpose for its second century of life.

“The restoration of the organ now secures the continuation of its present use and the option to hold more concerts, musical recitals and to showcase the organ in the future.

“The church would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have supported and contributed to its Pipe Organ Restoration Appeal.

“Grants were received from The Benefact Trust; Bridge Methodist Circuit; Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust; Suffolk Organists; East Coast Churches and Community Music Festival, while there were donations from members of the congregation and from individuals in the wider community.

“Money was also raised during special events held at the church.”

Throughout the year, the church organises several concerts. a summer fair, craft fairs, takes an active part in Heritage Open Days and hosts the Bridlington Autumn Show and a Christmas Tree Festival.
