When the X28 was cut from the schedule, it was clear that parishioners were bitterly disappointed, and many made their feelings known to parish councillors at the time.
After informal discussions late last year, the Parish Council wrote to EYMS and North Yorkshire Council and both accepted an invitation to attend the April Parish Council meeting. This gave councillors an excellent opportunity to explain the many problems parishioners face with the 128 service, such as buses arriving full, a lack of space for pushchairs and wheelchairs and the extended journey times and lack of frequency specifically making short trips into town, or commuting, virtually impossible.

It is also especially useful for the local businesses operating at Betton Farm Business Park and Betton Tearooms, our much-valued charity, which provides employment opportunities for students with learning difficulties.
Councillor Peacock said: “It is already clear from the village social media pages that this is great news for all those in our villages of East & West Ayton, with many praising the news online”
The Parish Council would like to thank both EYMS and North Yorkshire Council for taking the time to listen to the concerns raised by the village and for working together to find ways to make the new service happen.

Councillor Heath added: “We’ve campaigned long and hard as a village for the new service, so our job now is to make sure everyone is aware that it’s there and a much better option than the existing option. The more people that use it, the more viable it will be for the bus companies to run and the better the chance of us being able to keep it running long-term”.
