The Council Leader’s column with Anne Handley
I’m delighted to say that across the East Riding we’re about to see a number of large infrastructure projects reach completion, from large road junctions such as Jock’s Lodge to the new multi-storey car park in Bridlington.
Projects like these are all about making the East Riding a better place to live, work and visit.

As the schools return, many of you may be considering learning new skills or adding to your qualifications. With adult learning centres in Beverley, Bridlington, Cottingham and Goole, as well as online courses, we have something for everyone.
If you want to brush up your English and maths skills, get support with smartphones and computers or find a new hobby with learning for leisure courses such as cookery, pottery or sewing, we have a course for you. A new exhibition at Sewerby Hall, running until Sunday, September 20, will highlight the history of the estate’s gardens – revealing how they transformed from open fields into the private gardens of today.
The ‘Plants, Trees and the Country House’ exhibition explores the Georgian, Victorian and early twentieth century periods, and the head gardeners who oversaw their evolution.
This is a fascinating exhibition for those interested in history and botany, well worth a visit.
I would also like to encourage residents and visitors to take part in the Walking East Yorkshire Festival, set to return this September.
Taking place from Saturday, September 12 to Sunday, September 20, the festival will showcase the very best of East Yorkshire. Residents and visitors can discover spectacular landscapes, fascinating heritage and hidden gems through a wide range of guided activities.
The programme features scenic walking routes across the countryside and coastline, cycling trails, cultural tours, heritage experiences and food and drink discoveries.
Full details of all walks, tours and experiences are available in the Walking East Yorkshire Festival programme at: www.walkingeastyorkshirefestival.co.uk
