Among the features available are a wide selection of food-to-go options, fresh produce, bakery items, a Costa Coffee machine, an ATM, car park and a post office.

The new store has also helped create new jobs in the local community, with a team of nineteen colleagues, eighteen of which are new to Tesco.

Store Manager Austin Ferguson said: “I’m delighted to be taking on the role of store manager at Seamer Express and bringing a new Tesco store to Scarborough. We’re looking forward to creating a friendly and supportive environment for both customers and colleagues.

“I joined Tesco 13 years ago and have been working as a store manager for three years. With most of our colleagues just starting their career at Tesco, I’m excited to share my experience, helping them build their skills and growing as a team that we can all be proud of.

“Opening a new store is always a team effort, and it’s been great to see everyone pull together to get everything ready. We look forward to opening our doors and making everyday shopping a little easier for people in the community.”

As part of its commitment to supporting the local community, the store has donated £500 to Gladstone Road Primary School, while also providing the school with a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables to help encourage healthy eating among pupils.

Local schools and community projects are also encouraged to apply for support through Tesco’s Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, with up to £1,500 in grants available.

The programme provides funding for healthy food initiatives, as the retailer aims to help more than one million schoolchildren access fruit and vegetables through its school and community programmes, run in partnership with charity Groundwork UK.

Customers can vote for the good cause they want to support by dropping the Tesco blue token they receive at the checkout into the relevant voting box as they leave the store. Each funding round features three local projects, with grants awarded based on the number of tokens received.

Scarborough Seamer Express is also participating in the Community Food Connection scheme, which redistributes surplus food from every Tesco store to charities and community groups at the end of each day.

Since its launch in 2016, the Tesco Community Food Connection Scheme has donated more than 145 million meals to charities across the UK.
