The East Riding of Yorkshire Council Leader's column with Cllr Anne Handley: Enjoy early Bridmas festivities on the beach
I’m delighted that the Tour of Britain cycle race is coming back to the East Riding for their third stage race on Friday, 4 September.
The race will bring top-level cycling to the East Riding on a route which will go through some of our market towns, along the coast and across the Wolds.

I’m always keen to host events like this. It shows off our region, brings visitors to the area and boost our local businesses and communities. I hope you’ll take the opportunity to show off your town, village or community by decorating your area and lining the route on the day to cheer the riders on.
It will pass through the Bridlington area as they travel to Skipsea, Rudston and Burton Agnes before turning inland towards Driffield.

In Bridlington work has also now been completed on the path in Westgate Park, which was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This includes seating at either side of the footpath.
Work has also begun on the lighting columns along the pathway which will be complete soon.
Work continues on the multi-story car park at Beck Hill in Bridlington, with plans still on course to open this Autumn.
The steel frame and concrete decks are all completed, stair towers reached their full height and the twisted fin cladding now going on.
We are also currently undertaking a consultation about our Family Hubs. We would like to hear from families about Children’s Centres and Family Hubs and the support they provide. We’d like to know about the activities families use and where improvements to what is on offer could be made.
The survey is open online or in Family Hubs, Children’s Centres and libraries until Monday, August 10.
Don’t forget Christmas is coming early to Bridlington once again this August.
Our third Bridmas celebration will take place on Wednesday, August 5.
For one day only we will have Christmas trees on the beach, festive market stalls, Christmas food and a film at The Spa as well as crafts, games and live music.
Why not come along and celebrate Christmas early and get yourself some discounts to winter shows and events?
