Top cast announced for RNLI musical performance at Bridlington's Lifeboat Station

The cast for the new musical featuring the iconic lifeboat hero, Henry Freeman, born in Bridlington has been announced.

The show, Facing The Waves, will be presented in the town’s Lifeboat Station, specially converted into a theatre for the evening.

Taking the role of Freeman is Duncan Drury who has toured theatres nationally in The Rocky Horror Experience, as well playing many Shakespearian roles. Freeman’s modern-day counterpart is played by Eliza Shea, who has appeared Off-Broadway opposite Matthew Broderick, in the West End and can be heard opposite Christopher Ecclestone in the audio version of Dr Who. The cast also includes Robbie Bellekom, who toured with the national production of David Walliams’ Awful Aunty, Shona Maule and Charlie Staunton.

The music is composed by the award-winning composer, Alastair Collingwood who has written scores for numerous theatre shows and his TV credits include the music for French and Saunders; and the sitcom, Mad About Alice (BBC 1) amongst many others.

The show is from Whitby-based, Dogwood Productions, the town where Henry spent much of his life, leading rescues that made him a national figure. His story is both heroic and moving: his first day in the Whitby lifeboat ended with him being the only survivor who saw the other 12 crew members drown. The performance is on Sunday, September 29 at 7pm- with tickets are already selling well.

Dogwood is the official theatre partner for the RNLI as it celebrates its 200th anniversary this year and the new show will counterpoint the Henry’s life with that of a member of a current day lifeboat crew.
