Looking through the Max Payne archive offers a glimpse of these well known sights through a different lens, before the modern world transformed the town into what it is today. How many can you recognise?
. South Bay Bathing Pool
The pool was 350ft long and 180ft wide and was replenished with fresh sea water every high tide. It is now a paved area. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
. Open Air Theatre
Whilst the theatre is still recognisable in this picture, it looks very different to the stage that has been graced by Kylie, Britney and Elton John. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
. South Bay lights
Even in 1930 the South Bay looked beautiful lit up. The glass screen of the bandstand was not added until 1954. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
. North Bay
Today there is still an enclosed sports court on North side but its hard to imagine that several tennis courts were once there. They surely would have some of the most picturesque courts in the country. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
. North Bay boating pool
In the early 1930s Scarborough Corporation took over a circus at Peasholm Gap and created a children's boating pool, which would eventually become an outdoor bathing pool and is now set to become the long awaited cinema. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
. Falsgrave
Can you tell which pub is in this picture? On the right hand side The White Horse can be seen, known today as the Tap n Spile. Tram lines can also be seen in the middle of the road, part of a five mile network. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
. Foreshore
Did you know the site of Corrigans arcade used to be a Tepid swimming bath? There were 'dressing boxes' for at least 50 bathers, a ladies' plunge bath, and hot and cold showers. Blands Cliff also looks easier to drive up. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection

7. Rotunda
The Rotunda may still look the same but the road in front has changed dramatically, the underground aquarium is no longer there. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
8. Newcastle Packet
The packet is still well loved in the bottom end, though Sandside used to look very different. | jpimedia Photo: Max Payne Collection
