Looking through the Max Payne archive offers a glimpse of these well known sights through a different lens, before the modern world transformed the town into what it is today. How many can you recognise?
9. The Mere
Pictured in the 1920s, shortly after being landscaped by the council and turned into a popular tourist attraction, the Mere is a bit wilder today though still well loved by dog walkers and anglers. Photo: Max Payne Collection
10. Floral Hall
On the site of the current Alexandra Bowls Club stood the Floral Hall, and in front people can be seen enjoying the greens. Photo: Max Payne Collection
11. South Cliff
In 1912 Scarborough Corporation bought George Lord Beeforth's 13-acre estate including his Rose Garden, which was converted into the Italian Gardens. Now, over a century later, the area is being renovated again. Photo: Max Payne Collection
12. Roadworks
Can you work out which landmark is being built here? In the top right of the picture Glen Bridge is under construction, part of the councils long-term plan to bring the town into the motor age. Photo: Max Payne Collection
