Scarborough flat hit with three-month closure order over anti-social behaviour

A flat within a property on Princess Royal Terrace in Scarborough has been the subject of a partial Closure Order.

Yesterday, (July 30) York Magistrates Court heard an application from Scarborough’s Community Safety Hub which detailed the concerns, including criminal activity at the address, ongoing and persistent anti-social behaviour and concerns that other residents in the locality feared for their safety and didn’t want to leave their homes.

The Court heard that numerous calls were made to police and other partner agencies since the start of 2026. Concerns for the resident were also raised and considered as part of the order.

A partial Closure Order was granted, which allows the resident to remain living at the address, but restricts other people other than those nominated by the court, to attend the address. In this instance, professional support services, the landlord and anyone deemed to have a reasonable and lawful reason to attend the premises, such as utility service providers, gas, electricity and water and emergency services.

Acting Sergeant Stacey Begin of Scarborough’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The behaviour shown by the resident and their associates have caused a detrimental impact on the residents in the immediate area and those living close by.

"The Court has recognised the use of the premises has led to disorder within our community. We want our residents to feel safe in their own homes and we strive to make this happen.”

The Closure Order will remain in for three months, expiring on October 30.

If a person breaches the order, they will be liable to arrest and could face up to 51 weeks in prison, a fine, or both.
