Letter: Information lacking for residents

We feel that the residents have been badly let down by Scarborough Council. The council allowed the university to be built on plans that were not complete, then used retrospective legislation to right the error.

As residents we were denied proper information from the plans which were in their own words ‘indicative’. This would not have been tolerated by planning if this was from an individual.

Also planning was overseeing the largest building project in Scarborough’s history and appears to adopt a response to issues rather than being proactive.

The Coventry site was supposed to be 60 metres away from people’s property. The Scarborough campus is a lot nearer.

The height of the Country University is 20 metres above sea level. Its built on 30,000 cubic feet of contaminated soil, not from ground level.

Dozens of trees have been chopped down. Scarborough campus now has a three-hour session on a Wednesday of either playing football or rugby.

The language is terrible, the noise just as bad. No consideration for residents.

Coventry University gave Scarborough Borough Council £20,000; they spent £5,000 on a road survey. This is not want Coventry wanted it spent on.

The Ombudsman has produced a report which should be published because it’s in the public’s interest, but the Ombudsman has decided otherwise.
