From Blockbuster movies to much-loved TV dramas, the North York Moors regularly plays host to its share of film and TV stars. Here are 13 film and TV shows that have shone a spotlight on our stunning landscapes, coastlines, castles and towns.
1. The Runaways
Filming took place across the North York Moors, but mostly in the towns of Thirsk and Whitby.
2. Dad's Army
Bridlington was turned into the fictional Walmington-on-Sea in the 1940s to film Dad's Army, starring Bill Nighy and Toby Jones.
3. The Secret Garden
Fountains Abbey was used as the location for the 1993 adaptation of The Secret Garden, and also in the most recent film starring Colin Firth.
4. Heartbeat
The North York Moors National Park, and the village of Goathland, is famous as being the village of Aidensfield in the ITV police drama.
