‘Contentment and a cup of tea’ - Scarborough care home resident, 103, shares secret to long life
A 103-year-old resident at a care home in Scarborough has marked her birthday by giving her advice for leading a long and happy life.
Betty Wright, who lives at Care UK’s Cayton View, on Heather Pastures, celebrated the latest milestone of her centenarian status with banners, flowers and a delicious cake organised by team members.

Betty grew up in Cleethorpes, where she later began a successful career as a wedding cake decorator. She admits she had little time for hobbies in her younger years but has since been busy making up for it by becoming a regular at the local church choir and a keen fan of popular game shows Pointless and Tipping Point.
At 16, Betty met her late husband Stan and was married to him for an impressive 70 years, with two children together: Janice and Christopher.
When asked about her secret to living a long and happy life, Betty replied: “Contentment and a cup of tea!”
Leah Moon, Home Manager at Cayton View, said: “Betty is a much-loved resident here at Cayton View, and it was great to be a part of such a special occasion.
“We’re committed to helping residents live fulfilling lives, which is why we love to celebrate big milestones – and Betty’s 103rd birthday is a huge milestone indeed!
“On behalf of the whole team, I’d like to wish Betty a happy birthday once again; we’re already looking forward to our next celebration.”
