Fire crew from Filey alongside a rope rescue team from Scarborough assisted police, ambulance and coastguard with rescuing the person who had fallen 20 metres down a cliff after losing their footing.

Fire crews assisted the coastguard with setting up line rescue equipment prior to the coastguards helicopters arrival to see if they could also assist.

However, the helicopter winch was not possible due downwash from the rotary blades proving unsafe.

Crews then used the line rescue equipment which had already been set up to access the casualty and winch them to safety on a stretcher.

The casualty was taken to hospital for injuries not believed life threatening.
