From eerie train rides to ghoulish games and Halloween trails, there is plenty to get into the spooky spirit across Scarborough this October. Scarborough North Bay Railway is getting into the Halloween spirit with not one, but two spooky attractions for visitors to enjoy.

The popular Pumpkin Trail, running from October 24 to November 1, invites visitors to hop aboard the train and follow the trail in search of pumpkins. Those who complete the challenge will be entered for a chance to win a Ghoulish Goody Bag.

For those looking for an extra fright, the railway’s Hallowscream Express is running from Wednesday, October 28 to Saturday, October 31, promising a fang-tastic adventure for brave passengers.

Designed to be spooky rather than terrifying, the experience begins at the station in Peasholm, where a resident storyteller sets the scene with a frightful tale of mystery and mischief.

With the story told and courage summoned, passengers board the train for a spooky journey into the darkness. Travellers are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled along the way, as they never know what might appear.

Those who make it safely back will be rewarded for their bravery with a Halloween gift bag. Scarborough Castle is also embracing the season, with its Halloween half-term celebrations running from Saturday, October 24, to Sunday, November 1, between 10am and 4pm.

The Great Pumpkin Party promises a ghoulishly good day out, with family activities, interactive storytelling, spooky games and a themed trail to explore around the historic site.

Fancy dress is encouraged, with a daily competition giving children the chance to show off their spookiest, silliest and most spectacular costumes in the hope of winning a prize.

There is plenty happening throughout the day, with activities scheduled for different times to keep little monsters entertained.

The event is included in the standard admission price, with visitors able to save 15 per cent by booking in advance. English Heritage members can enter for free.
